Early Life and Career

Edward Turner was born in 1901 in London, England. He developed a passion for motorcycles at a young age, and by the time he was 16, he had built his own motorcycle. After completing his apprenticeship as a machinist, Turner worked for a number of motorcycle companies, including Ariel and Norton. In 1936, he joined Triumph as the chief designer.

Triumph Years

During his time at Triumph, Turner was responsible for a number of groundbreaking motorcycle designs. In 1937, he introduced the Speed Twin, which was the first production motorcycle to feature a parallel-twin engine. The Speed Twin was a huge success, and it helped to establish Triumph as a major player in the motorcycle market.

In 1946, Turner introduced the Thunderbird, which was a larger and more powerful version of the Speed Twin. The Thunderbird was another big success, and it helped to make Triumph one of the most popular motorcycle brands in the world.

In 1956, Turner introduced the Bonneville, which was the most powerful and fastest motorcycle that Triumph had ever produced. The Bonneville was a huge success, and it helped to cement Triumph's reputation as a manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles.

Later Years

Turner left Triumph in 1954 to start his own company, Turner Manufacturing. Turner Manufacturing produced a number of innovative motorcycles, including the Ariel Cyclone and the BSA Rocket 3. However, the company was not as successful as Triumph, and it eventually closed its doors in 1968.

Turner died in 1970 at the age of 69. He is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of motorcycling. His innovative designs and engineering prowess helped to make Triumph one of the world's leading motorcycle manufacturers, and his legacy continues to inspire motorcyclists today.
